Mrs.
Fun
The Best Of Mrs. Fun
Daemon Records,
POB 1207, Decatur, GA 30031
http://www.daemonrecords.com
Mrs. Fun is jazz-inspired raps and slick sax solos
that adds up to something sophisticated and fun, smart and funky.
Mrs. Fun is a duo; Connie Grauer on bass and keyboards and Kim Zick
on drums. These women got rhythm. These swinging sisters have attracted
attention with their boss bop. This witty beat music got them resume
material from working with drummer Victor DeLorenzo (Violent Femmes),
k. d. lang, and Indigo Girls. There recording with the Indigo Girls,
"Gossip," is one of the dozen tracks recorded here to give en overview
of their career. (3.5) |

Kellee
Bradley
The Season
In a Big Way Music,
POB 12324, Mill Creek, WA 98082 http://www.zyworld.com/kelleebradley
kelleesong@aol.com
In creating her own unique DIY statement,
Ms. Bradley involved the production talents of Eschaton Music's
R. Chris Murphy (Martin Sexton, King Crimson). Bradley just wound
up a West Coast tour sharing her open-eyed, sophisticated neo-folk
music with an appearance at the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas.
This debut, full-length CD exhibits her talents as a vocalist and
singer-songwriter. Her warm and moving delivery enhances her intelligent
and poetic material. The full production of this album includes
such elements as classical guitar, piano and rising strings on different
tracks. The closing track is an unforgettable a cappella rendition
of the classic Irish ballad "Bold Finian Men." The multi-talented
Bradley is also an actress that appeared in Northern Exposure, Star
Trek: The Next Generation and other TV shows and films. (3.5) |

Leni
Stern
For the Kindness of Strangers
Leni Stern Recordings
http://www.lenistern.com
This 7" single gives us two examples of Leni Stern's
moving songwriting and superb, jazz-inspired guitar. Leni's voice
gently climbs from a conversation tone to an angelic lilt in such
a way to remain intimate, personal. Leni sings to you the listener,
not an anonymous audience. Leni's expressive lyric has an accessible,
pop quality with out ever becoming overly sugary or begging commercial
appeal. (3.5) |

Méav
Méav
Hearts of Space
Méav, pronounced "mave," is a brilliant young soprano
straight from that emerald isle, Ireland. Her appearance as principal
soloist the Dublin, London and New York City Riverdance productions
gave her talents exposure on two continents. Her first solo album
is a self-titled Hearts of Space release. It exhibits her skills
in performance of not only Celtic material like the theme from Rob
Roy, but such traditional songs as "I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls."
A small orchestra of classical and Celtic instrumentation backs
Méav on this recording. Méav shows not only the promising vocalist's
captivating song ability, but her varied and eclectic inspirations
from the world of song. (4) |
