Hailing from Brooklyn, Like So began as a duo in spring of 2001 when singer songwriter Aisha Cohen found she needed help bringing her first songs to life. That help came from guitarist Aaron Magram, and thus began a musical collaboration.

For the next couple of years they perfected their chops, performing around New York City at small clubs and cafes, originally as the Aisha Cohen Band. Along the way, they picked up early members of the group, bassist Tara Thierry (Toni Blackman, Strange Fruit, Alien Canopy), drummer Claudio Rochat-Felix (Jonny Lives, The Rochat-Felix Quintet). They were later joined by keyboardist Bob Byrne and drummer Steve Gonzalez (The Sharp Things), The current line up includes bassist Richard Holst and drummer Billy Gunnz.

With the expanded lineup there's been a different approach to songwriting. Says Aisha: "When we first started out, Aaron and I did a lot of collaborating. I would come up with lyrics and some skeleton form of a song and Aaron would help me make it into a real song or I would just have lyrics and a melody and he would come up with the rest of the music. Usually the lyrics come first with me, but lately it’s been the music. With the current line up of myself, Aaron, Rich and Billy, songwriting now is shared between us. I come up with lyrics and a melody or changes and everyone else comes up with their part. I also write and arrange the songs by myself sometimes too."

Drawing on a wide array of influences — from The Police to Bill Withers to Grace Jones to Sade — the combo brings it all together in a blend that will stir your soul (and make you shake your ass a little too). The varied musical backgrounds and influences of each of the members create a sound that is both unique and accessible.

Most recently, the band completed their self-titled debut mini LP, recorded over two weekends in the summer of 2003 at Studio G in Brooklyn. The official release will take place in January 2005, to be followed by a regional tour.
