WOMANROCK:
Tell me something about Cloud Factory. What is it? How did it get
started?
Forest Green:
Cloudfactory [ http://www.cloudfactory.org
] is an underground art collective with an extremely open mind and
heart!!! We throw large indoor events, campout events, an alternative
fashion show, a monthly in San Francisco called Deluge, and a monthly
in Monterey called Spin Cycle. Cloudfactory just celebrated it's
5 year anniversary this past July, and we are currently in the process
of becoming a non-profit. We also work closely with many other collectives,
organizations and labels here in the Bay Area, including... Friends
And Family, Gateway, Drop Beat, Static, Viberation, Radiant Atmospheres,
Tetractys, Technostate.com, Ultima Networks, Solid Grooves, Irrational
Geographic, Critical Path, Harmony, Hyperreal, B-Side, NodeOne,
Topica, RhythMethod, Nub Chai, Frequency 8, Collab.net, ImmersiveArts,
Burning Man, 3D-Dynamic/Vektor 9 Recordings, Sister.
WOMANROCK:
What is Technostate and how did you get your music online there?
Forest Green:
Technostate Underground Communications is an internet webcasting
station and archiving house to eletronic music and culture and everything
within it! The founders of Technostate, Tony Rose, aka Dr. Nog,
and Charm Stadtler, aka GabberGirl, were looking to expand the Technostate
team, and add some shows to Technostate, and I was lucky enough,
and had the skills to become one of the webcasting agents, and a
show host, as well as DJing every few weeks live on ACN, which is
where my archives on Technostate come from! I am a Technostate agent.
I am a webcaster and technician there, and I have been hosting my
weekly live webcast, Abstract Communications Network, for a year,
out of the Technostate Studios in San Francisco. My other archives
and my mixed tape up online are hosted by some awesome sites based
in Toronto!

WOMANROCK:
What are your ultimate goals for your music and
your mixes?
Forest Green:
Music and art are my life! My number one goal is to be able to do
art and music all of the time, and be able to live doing this alone!
I am in process right now. It is not easy, but there is no other
way for me! I eventually would like to also produce and write techno
in my own studio that I will build up myself. I also want to continue
to create experimental video works, as I have done in the past.
I am also a video artist as well as a DJ. I intend to push the mediums
of music, computers and art! I am not content to just DJ. I would
like to see "raves" continue to evolve into massive, creative artfests
with many aspects coming together at one time!!! I want to keep
all mediums open to me as avenues of expression and creation!!!
DJing and music continue to be my favorite though with video running
close behind! I love webcasting and archiving too!
WOMANROCK:
Do you ever work with live artists?
Forest Green:
As a DJ I did once. It was a lot of fun actually! =) I am open to
trying this out more! =) I also just recently had an experimental
party at my house called Cacophony at which we had seven turntables,
5 mixers, one synth and total madness! It was great fun! Someone
compared it to a drum circle, except for DJs. I asked the DJs to
bring more minimal tracks to mix in. Some of the experiment was
pretty messy, but once we got some really solid beat matching DJs
up on the decks, it locked into something quite magical!!! WOW!!!
It was great fun! I intend to do more experiments like this, but
with set line-ups next time! I also want to bring in more visual
elements!!! I also am a vocalist, something many people do not know
about me actually. I have studied music since I was about 9... piano
and voice. I always loved music and singing. I studied classical
voice and opera from 14 to 23, at which time I got sick of institutional
music studies at the university, and switched schools and studies
over to the interdisciplinary arts program at SFSU, which equated
to far more open studies of video art, editing, cinema and computer
arts. Editing visuals (both analog and digital) brought me back
around to music, through the cut and paste lifestyle of the DJ.
I continue to remain very fond of any projects having to do with
the non-linear art creation, be it sound, visual or beyond! This
is where I see myself continuing my journey as an artist.
WOMANROCK:
Anything you'd like to add?
Forest Green:
Everyone has something to do in this world! Find it and do it NOW!!!
Express yourself!
WOMANROCK:
