| Ever
wonder what all the numbers above 5 on a Marshal Stack sound like?
No need to wonder any longer - just come out and see BUBBLE in Seattle
this weekend for an all-ages show at the Hi*Score Arcade. Off stage,
singer Share Ross gives us the low down on life in a BUBBLE. |

WOMANROCK:
Sonically what does Bubble represent?
Share:
We're rock-n-roll with old-school punk overtones. LOUD Gibson guitars
thru Marshalls ala the 70's. Lots of pop melodies. Dino's a GREAT
bassist and Bam is like Keith Moon, John Bonham and, of course,
BAM himself all rolled into one maniac! My favorite category someone
called us was this: "alterna/glam/punk/pop"!
WOMANROCK:
I read on the web that you and Bam are married. How does being in
a relationship affect the band and vice versa?
Share:
Sometimes it's great and sometimes it drives us crazy. I think we
act pretty professional around the band. But we're definitely a
team and try to include Brent and Dino in that feeling. Our goal
is that BUBBLE becomes a family. Whenever someone becomes an integral
part of the band circle, like our mix engineer, Adam, we call them
part of the BUBBLE family. We all have dinner together in our backyard
a lot and frequently socialize. If you're gonna spend that much
time on the road as a unit, ya better like each other!
As far as the marriage, we take time away from the band, even on
the road, to just "be married". We are very aware of the need to
nurture our relationship and do our best to keep it fresh. We live
in a studio we built and we play in both BUBBLE and the DOGS D'AMOUR
together. So it can get overwhelming to talk about business all
the time. We've invented "band-free-conversation-days". Where we
can only discuss subjects outside of music. Basically, it boils
down to love, trust and respect. Fortunately, we both have that
in spades for each other.
WOMANROCK:
When was "how bout this" released? Did it come out on your own label?
Share:
We released "how 'bout this?" on April 7, 2000. Yes, we put it out
on our own label, Basement Boy Records.
WOMANROCK:
What are you doing to promote the release? Have you toured a lot?
Share:
We've done a decent number of online and print interviews. We play
LA quite a bit and are touring up the west coast for the second
time this year. We toured Japan in April of this year and are returning
in December. We're also touring the UK in December. We haven't toured
the entire U.S. yet because we haven't found a distributor for America.
WOMANROCK:
Any good road stories?
Share:
Road
stories??? Hmmmm...how 'bout the whole band getting drunk in Tokyo,
collapsing arm in arm on the floor of a club and singing ALL of
"Wild Horses" (Stones) at the top of our lungs ACAPPELLA!!! That
was a great night. Another fun one was our last show in Tokyo at
the Loft (sold out!!) and for the encore, we did what we do all
the time at rehearsals....Bam and I switched instruments. So he
played guitar and I got to play drums!!! The crowd went crazy and
we felt like we'd shared a secret with them.
WOMANROCK:
Are you working on new material?
Share:
Yeah, are we ever!!!! We're working on an EP to be released very
soon. (Nov. 2000?) And, we've started working on our second album.
Tentatively titled, "Rockets and Volcanoes". A lot of the material
is close to done and just needs fine tuning. I am sooooo excited
about the new record! This band is great both in the studio and
playing live and now the writing is coming from everyone. The new
record will rock a bit harder.
WOMANROCK:
Does living in Hollywood influence your writing?
Share:
I don't believe Hollywood influences us much in the actual music
but the lyrics probably bear some LA reflections. "Castle on the
Hill" was definitely LA inspired.
WOMANROCK:
Is the LA scene a good place to be for a rock band right now?
Share:
The LA scene. There are certainly a LOT more clubs a rock n roll
band can play now than three years ago. It's still challenging to
get a reaction from the cynical Hollywood crowd but when ya do it
feels GREAT!
WOMANROCK:
Do you feel the ROCKRGRL Conference is opening doors for women in
music?
Share:
Well, I hope so! It seems a lot of industry is taking the Conference
seriously so there's bound to be a positive ripple effect.
