HEATHER EATMAN

HER CAREER

Heather EatmanI consider my career to be a work in progress -- still growing! I hope to follow in the footsteps of artists like Tom Waits and Lucinda Williams who have concentrated on making the best music they can and let the business stuff follow in it's own good time. I've released two records, so far. The first, MASCARA FALLS, was on John Prine's indie, Oh Boy Records. The most recent, CANDY & DIRT, is on my own label, Impossible Records.

PEOPLE WHO HAVE SUPPORTED HER

There are too many to name here. But if I had to pick a few to talk about, I would have to mention the great songwriter, John Prine, for one. He has been a great source of advice and inspiration, particularly about songwriting and performing -- especially during the West Coast tour we did together. And my attorney, Josh Grier, has done a wonderful job of educating and protecting me from the pitfalls one encounters regularly in the music business. And my two producers so far, Roger Moutenot and Stewart Lerman have taught me tons about making records.

ABOUT MP3

I think they're a cool way to promote new artists. For someone like me, I don't really see a downside. In the next couple of weeks, "Great White Hope," one of my songs from CANDY & DIRT, will become available for download through www.amazon.com's New Music Spotlight.

ABOUT RECORD LABELS

I started my own label because I was anxious to be in control of my own music and career. I find doing the day-to-day business of running my little company to be extremely rewarding and satisfying. It simplifies and speeds up everything I want to get done, because I don't have to get a bunch of other people's permission!

SOME GIRL STUFF

I don't have a lot of spare time, but when I get a chance, I like to draw and paint watercolors. I did the artwork for both of my records, so it does come in handy. As far as clothes go, I'm into jeans and tennis shoes and anything that looks good from a distance onstage. I wear all MAC makeup -- they rock! And I like to shop at www.blueasphalt.com and the Tokyo Consignment Store in the East Village.
