BRENDA
KAHN
HER CAREER
Hunger
is my fifth record. Recorded on my own label. I'm in a completely
new phase of my career, trying to see beyond my efforts to promote
my recordings specifically and concentrate on the quality of the
music I produce. I'm co-writing music for a play, music supervising
on an independent film and of course working day and night on WOMANROCK.com.
PEOPLE WHO HAVE SUPPORTED HER
Albert Garzon, David Kahne, All the ABC No Rio people, Tim Patalan
and now all the WOMANROCK people.
ABOUT MP3
I have to agree with Kristin Hersh on this one. MP3's are perfect.
They afford musicians the opportunity to market to the people who
care. But beyond that, this new technology allows musicians to create
a storefront online, so distribution isn't such a problem. Go to
http://www.mp3.com
ABOUT RECORD LABELS
My last record was released on Rocket 99, my own label. I started
to see the simplicity of the label format. It's basically a promotions
person, a press person, a retail person and a bunch of money. The
money is the hard part. But I love the work knowing the return comes
back to you and you maintain creative control.
GIRL STUFF
I do love to shop. Kookai
is my favorite store, but I don't think they have one in the U.S.
It's just as well because I spend all my money on instruments and
music related stuff anyway. I wear M.A.C.
make-up. I do Xing Ye, a Chinese Martial Art and otherwise my only
free time I spend with my dog Tika. |
